ITV/Simon cowell & Co are obviously trying hard to overshadow & beat the Doctor Who 50th episode in ratings on the 23rd Nov, I’ve thought this since One Direction announced their One Direction Day on the same day & then yesterday I have a friend on Facebook who watches The X Factor & she posted a article saying that on the 23rd November on The X factor they have One Direction, JLS & Olly Murs, etc, performing to celebrate old successful X Factor acts or something like that, obviously with all the build up & publicity the Doctor Who 50th is getting, ITV/X Factor/Simon Cowell know as they they are going up against the episode that they have to try & beat it in some way, so are bringing back all their most successful acts to perform, apparently the One Direction part will also be to celebrate 1D Day!
Now I’m not one of them Doctor Who fans who are having a strop & demanding that One Direction move their day to another (there’s even a petition for it), I’m just going to ignore both One Direction & X Factor as I usually do & let them do what they want as long as it doesn’t completely over shadow Doctor Who, but I don’t think it will, there are Doctor Who fans all around the world celebrating & while One Direction also have a big fanbase, on a few Doctor Who Facebook pages I’m a part of when it was announced that it would also be 1D day on the same day as Doctor Who day, there were some genuine comments of “Who are One Direction? Never heard of them”
To be honest I don’t care about One Direction Day or The X Factor, I don’t watch X factor anyway, I don’t like any of the acts performing on that day & even if they had Duran Duran performing on X Factor that day, I’d still watch Doctor Who over it & just wait till someone put the performance online later on.
I’m not sure what I’m going to do for the Doctor Who 50th really, I wanted to go the official celebrations in London but the tickets sold out before I could save up for them (although I have entered a competition to win a pair of tickets, so if I’m lucky..), I wanted to hold a party on the night but finding a venue with a tv to watch the episode on was difficult, they were either expensive and a good priced one I found was booked up that entire weekend, I might have to see if there are any tickets left for the local cinema showing in 3D and see if someone would like to join me for that. I have a costume idea that I was gonna wear for the party so I could wear it to the cinema (I’m sure I wont be the only one dressed up). otherwise I’m just gonna be sat at home on my own watching it as usual, which is boring (no, my home is way too small to host a party at, so that is out of the question, unless everyone wants to sit in the yard in the freezing cold…)
I always used to get asked what I wanted to do or be when I was left school or college and I was never sure, I used to change my mind every week, I still had no idea when I left school and ended up doing a college course with a mixture of subjects, I enjoyed some parts, including Music Appreciation, but nothing I could see myself doing as a job (maybe radio work as it was part of the course work in Music Appreciation), I went on to an employment training course & asked about radio work but the lady said I’d be more suited to retail & just got put in retail work placements, I ended up being put on another training course doing an NVQ in retail, I didn’t get the NVQ cos the centre closed down halfway through, I ended up unemployed for a couple of years before I went back to college & did an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Art & Design, I wanted to go on to a fashion design course to see what it was like but they put the course fees up & I couldn’t afford it so I went back to being unemployed & doing more training courses that didn’t really help
So I was thinking what can I do with life, that incorporates the retail aspect & maybe the music aspect of my life and a few years ago during the Record Store Day when I couldn’t get the records I wanted (not the Duran Duran one last year, this was before it, although I didn’t get that one either) because York does not have a proper Independent Record Store, It gave me the idea that maybe I could open my own store up, York did have an great record store called Track, but it closed down when the guy retired after 40 years, now all we have for records is: A weekend market stall, Attic - a tiny room 3 floors up 2 days a week & Rebound Records which only sells jazz & classical records; The 1st two are good stores to buy old records from but none of them do new stuff, I have to order it from the internet, York doesn’t have a store that sells new & old records.
So I find an empty shop in York city centre (there’s plenty of them) preferably with 2 floors, sell old and new records & some cds on the ground floor, with merchandise, record players & more music upstairs with like listening booths things so people can “Try before You Buy” and maybe sell tea, coffee & cake too, have free Wi-Fi, so people can surf the net while listening to whatever they want from the store with a cup of tea, on some evenings have bands come in & do little acoustic gigs, work with local music venues to promote & sell tickets to gigs & sell music from local bands
The problems I have with getting this started is obviously money, I’m still unemployed but I’ve done research & there is a New Enterprise Scheme to help unemployed people start up businesses with a loan & a personal adviser to help, plus my sister has a business degree so she’ll help me too!
